pitched the starter that had been continuously stirred for 2 weeks into approx 1080 Saison wort sometime in January. Stored in corner of basement where temp was around 60F for several months. Checked gravity in mid-April, and it had only dropped to 1065. Brough temp up to 70F and pitched entire yeast cake from a regular Saison using Wyeast Saison yeast. Raised tempt gradually up to 84 over the next week and left for another week at 84F. FG down to 1010. There was a hint of Brett. Beer won Best of Show at Mid-South Fair. Lesson learned from research = Brett only beers ferment best at 72 to 75F. Having temp in lower to mid 60s will barely ferment at all.

Thanks for the nice comments. My agency (Abra Marketing) came up with the concept and designs. The ladies in the 2 beers on the right (Bucking Brown and Big Wave Wheat) actually worked in our office. We took their pictures in the office then photoshopped them into the scenes.

The 'California Brew Girls' is a concept I came up with. Women from California will be able to submit their photos to be featured in the star at the top (the red star at the top and red stripe along the bottom of the label are intended to parallel the California State Flag) as a California Brew Girl.

California Brewing Company is a start up. The owners are seeking funding to get these on the shelves. Very cool guys, home brewers working hard to take their beer to the masses.

Riley explains veto of draft beer bill

By Dana Beyerle
Montgomery Bureau

Published: Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 3:30 a.m.

Gov. Bob Riley on Wednesday clarified why he vetoed local legislation that would have authorized draft beer for Colbert County.

In his veto message to the House on Monday, the last day of the 2008 legislative session, Riley stated: "I have made it a practice of this administration to veto such proposed legislation if it does not allow the local citizens to vote in a referendum, to approve or disapprove the sale of keg or draft beer or malt beverages, in their local communities. This bill fails to provide for a referendum."

When asked why he vetoed the bill while allowing a similar bill for Florence to become law in 2007, Riley's press office released this statement:

"Supporters of the bill that passed last year made a convincing case to the governor that the bill should become law, and a significant difference is that this earlier bill at least gave local officials the authority to decide the fate of draft beer sales in their community. That's not the case with HB788.That bill gave the Legislature in Montgomery the only say in the matter."

The Florence draft beer bill was permissive in that it said the city council may, by ordinance, enact draft beer. Counties need special permission from the Legislature for powers that aren't specifically granted.

Assistant Press Secretary Todd Stacy said Riley didn't change his mind.

"I'm simply pointing out that a significant difference in the bills is that the Florence legislation at least allowed local officials to decide the fate of draft beer in their community, while HB788 left all say in the matter to the Legislature in Montgomery," Stacy said.

Sheffield sought draft beer legislation in order to compete with Florence. The governing bodies of Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia and Colbert County all sought it so a county-wide draft beer bill was introduced by Rep. Marcel Black, D-Tuscumbia, and passed the House.

"I find I'm really having a hard time discerning the difference between the two since in both cases the power to put draft beer on sale is in the hands of the (Sheffield) council," said Sheffield Mayor Billy Don Anderson. "This council is the one who petitioned the act to be submitted."

Black said he does not believe he can reintroduce draft beer legislation in the special session expected next week because proposed local legislation must be advertised at least four consecutive weeks before introduction.
